FOR MANY YEARS WE HAVE BEEN TAKING CARE THAT WE LIVE IN HARMONY WITH NATURE.

Environmentally friendly building techniques

Our company offices and buildings are heated by environmentally friendly wood chip-fired heating.

Our "Creative" hall is equipped with special glass to economize transmission energy and special heat insulation.

All south-facing roofs are fitted with photovoltaic modules for the environmentally friendly generation of solar electricity. We currently have the largest solar electricity plant in our administrative district.
About 30% of our electric power requirements comes from solar electricity. Furthermore, we reduce harmful CO2 emissions by 490,000 Kg during operating time.

All our commercial buildings, together with our joinery and metalworking departments, are finished with solid, environmentally friendly, untreated oak cladding.
In exchange, nature rewards us with a fantastic working and indoor climate.

ACTIONS TO PROTECT NATURE

We have already participated in numerous actions:

The Davidswald forest:
for every Christmas tree that we sold to Globus Supermarkets, native broad-leaved trees were planted to rehabilitate a disused landfill site.

Every year, hazelnut, lime
and large chestnut trees
are planted on common land.

The enviroment and christmas tress

In order to care for our precious environment we turn to new methods such as ‘Shropshire Sheep’, tree bark or other natural mulches and covering materials, the selection of insect and fungus resistant plants, the use of biological insect repellents etc. Many new processes are currently being tested. If God still has a role to play, in approximately 10 years time we will still have beautiful trees for you.

Prof. Dr. Jürgen Matschke advises us in his expert opinion the advantages of mass Christmas tree production:

  • Production of biomass and with it the binding of carbon dioxide
  • Production of life essential oxygen
  • The partial compensation and filtration of the ‘greenhouse gasses’, such as methane, ozone, nitric oxide, FCPs and with it the partial cleaning of pollutants from the atmosphere.
  • Binding of dust particles to the extent of approx. > 300 Tonne per hectare (ten year culture)
  • Storage and reduction in flooding ( evaporation ) of water
  • equalising effect of the trees on surface temperature and winds and the associated benefit to flora and fauna
  • an ecologically led programme of Christmas tree culture would help solve the problems of the earth, for it is observed that:
    • annually 20 million hectares of wooded area is destroyed world- wide
    • annually 1 billion tonnes of carbon (corresponding to 2.66 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide) are released into the atmosphere due to the destruction of wooded areas
    • deserts expand approx. 20,000 hectares annually
  • of the estimated 10 to 100 million life forms on the earth 27,000 or 74 every day,
or 3 every hour become extinct through the effect of man
  • from the latest visual estimates only 38% of the spruce, 29% of the pine, 19% of the beech and only 23% of the oak trees in German woods and in the open landscape are said to be healthy.
  • a plantation of blue spruce (10,000 per hectare) produces depending on the quality of the location and nutritive material on average in ten years:

1. Dry material
above ground: 40 - 60 tonnes
below ground: 12 - 18 tonnes

and with it

2. Carbon
above ground: 20 - 30 tonnes
below ground: 6 - 9 tonnes

binds with it

3. Carbone dioxide
95 - 143 tonnes

and produces besides

4. Oxygen
70 - 105 tonnes

In Germany approx. 20 to 25 million Christmas trees are grown annually which on an area of some 2,500 hectares with an average life of 10 years produce at least:

  • 130.000 - 195.000 tonnes of dry material = 65,000 - 97,500 tonnes of carbon and thus
  • 237.500 - 357.500 tonnes of carbon dioxide taken from the atmosphere and
  • 175.500 - 262.500 tonnes of oxygen are additionally produced!

The Christmas tree - a natural medicine

Prof. Dr. Bankhofer informs us in his expert opinion:

  • The essential oils which the resin of the tree exudes smell wonderfully of the forest. They are inhaled by us and calm the soul. An ideal cure for the hectic Christmas preparations.
  • Each pine needle secretes a fragrance which helps circulation.
  • Some of the essential oils work beneficially on the nasal and respiratory tracts which helps coughs and colds.
  • Also, even if the fir tree was felled many days previously, the needles still retain their air purifying abilities. The tree in the living room, as it does in the forest, transforms carbon dioxide or exhaled air into healthy oxygen. That means that our Christmas tree acts as a natural air conditioning system or a healthy air filter.
  • Observations by doctors have shown that: if one sits near the Christmas tree and inhales deeply, afterwards one sleeps better and more deeply. Certain substances- known as flavonides - produce an effect on skin and airways and calm the nervous system.
  • If you, as many do, burn a fresh fir twig over a fire, it smells so intensely of forest and Christmas. The explanation: an explosion small strongly scented drops of oil from the needles. They increase the feeling of well being.
  • After Christmas pine needle bath extract can be made, again very healthy. Such a bath calms, lowers too high blood pressure, magics away migraines and promotes sleep.
